It is called Live Lane Guidance, allowing real-time visualization of lanes on the instrument panel, and it is a new function from Google for Maps, supported by artificial intelligence. The Polestar 4 will be the first car to enjoy a technology that helps the driver stay on course more easily, by assisting them in unfamiliar scenarios or very complex traffic situations.
Available in all models with integrated Google Maps, the new functionality is capable of identifying the lane that the vehicle is using with the support of artificial intelligence tools, which work in conjunction with images captured by a front camera, identifying vertical signage and road markings. In this way, using visual and auditory indications, the program helps the driver to change lanes in advance, if necessary, to reach the destination.
Sid Odedra, director of the UI/UX department at Polestar, regarding the new function, stated: “The partnership with Google has benefited our customers. Live Lane Guidance continues our strategy of placing the driver at the center of the digital experience, reducing stress levels while driving, and increasing safety by making last-minute lane changes less concerning.”
The Live Lane Guidance feature of Google Maps will be launched over the next few months in the Polestar 4, but initially, only in the USA and Sweden, and will later be made available to other markets and other models of the Swedish brand owned by the Chinese Geely. “We have been close partners since 2020. The Polestar 2 was the first car with an integrated Google system, and the Polestar 4 is set to introduce a new benchmark in the field of navigation”, said Andrew Foster, head of the American technology company.
