Abbi Pulling, from Rodin Motorsport, dominated both sessions of the F1 Academy tests in Zandvoort. Despite the unpredictable weather, Pulling led the rest of the grid and topped the timing tables on both days of testing. She was the only driver to stay within a second of Doriane Pin, whom she closely followed during the opening of the 2024 F1 Academy season. Pulling secured her first win of the season in the race in Jeddah after Pin received a penalty. In an interview, Pulling expressed her love for challenging conditions and her excitement for the next F1 Academy race in Miami. She also mentioned her disappointment that her first race win did not feel completely satisfying. Pulling had a strong start on the first day of testing in Zandvoort, setting the fastest time and staying ahead of her competitors. The afternoon session saw intense competition between Pulling, Maya Weug, and Jessica Edgar. Pulling ultimately came out on top, securing the fastest time of the day.

The morning session of the second day in Zandvoort started with Pulling leading, ahead of her teammate Edgar from Rodin Motorsport, with a gap of 1.3 seconds between them. She set an initial benchmark time of 1:51.396, but the session was interrupted twice due to wet weather, resulting in two red flags. Chambers, the driver nominated by Haas, struggled in the wet conditions and ended up in the gravel at Turn 7. Shortly after, Visa Cash App RB driver Amna Al Quibasi also went off track two turns later. Despite the challenging conditions, PREMA’s two drivers, Weug and Pin, took turns at the top of the timing sheets once the session resumed. Weug, a member of the Ferrari Academy, had previous racing experience at Zandvoort and outperformed her teammate Haussmann. The morning session was further disrupted by four red flags, as heavy rain spoiled the laps of Edgar and Lovinfosse from Rodin Motorsport.

The morning session ended with Pulling setting the fastest time of 1:44.311, followed by Edgar, 1.359 seconds behind, in second place. Hamda Al Quibaisi from Visa Cash App RB completed the top three. Sauber’s nominated driver, Schreiner, finished fourth, with Williams’ junior driver Block in fifth, ahead of Haussmann. Chambers secured seventh place, while Ferrari’s junior driver came in eighth. Tommy Hilfiger’s driver, Martí, closely followed in ninth, and McLaren’s Bustamente completed the top ten.

In the afternoon, the drivers had three hours of testing for the 2024 grid after a chaotic morning session, with heavy rain. Pulling once again set the pace by leading the time tables with a time of 1:41.867. However, Amna Al Qubaisi caused a red flag by going off track at Turn 10. The Ferrari junior driver came close to catching Pulling, but the British driver managed to improve her time before Pin set the fastest lap. Pin, from the Alpine Junior team, set a time of 1:36.045, setting the pace three tenths ahead of the Ferrari and Mercedes junior drivers. Amna Al Qubaisi had another incident, going off track at Turn 13 in the final hour, while Pulling, Pin, and Weug battled for the top position. Pulling ended up finishing the afternoon session in first place, with Weug and Pin closely following in second and third place, respectively. Martí was just behind the Mercedes driver by only 0.069 seconds, securing fourth place for Prema. Nobels, the driver sponsored by Puma, claimed fifth place, while Schreiner secured seventh place ahead of De Heus from MP Motorsport. Bustamente improved his morning time and finished in ninth place, ahead of the Red Bull junior driver, Hamda Al Qubaisi.

Looking ahead, the drivers are now focused on the Miami Grand Prix this weekend, where the second F1 Academy will take place between Formula 1 sessions.
