Pierre Gasly Bids Farewell to a Disastrous Season: “Best Night of the Year” at Abu Dhabi Grand Prix!
In a dramatic conclusion to a nightmarish 2025 season, Pierre Gasly took a moment to reflect on his tumultuous journey with Alpine, declaring the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as “the best night of the year.” The French driver’s year was nothing short of a disaster, managing to score a mere 22 points—the lowest of his career—thanks to a car that many dubbed the worst on the grid, the A525.
Gasly has faced relentless challenges this season, with the Alpine team and its Renault engine department failing to provide him with a competitive vehicle. The 2025 season marked a stark contrast to his previous performances, where he consistently finished in the top 10. His lone highlight this year was a P4 finish in Bahrain, a fleeting moment of triumph amid a sea of frustration and disappointment.
As he closed the chapter on this grim season, Gasly expressed his relief and gratitude, stating, “It’s the best night of the year. We’re done.” He described the entire year as “very tough,” but praised his team’s resilience despite the overwhelming odds. “When you don’t have a competitive car, it’s very difficult and easy to give up. Nonetheless, everyone stuck with it and gave their best,” he emphasized, highlighting the dedication of the team that rallied around him through thick and thin.
Looking ahead, Gasly is eager to turn the page and focus on the future, quipping, “I told them to keep it [the car] out of my sight next year. I’m sure we can put it in a corner in Enstone. It hasn’t been the kindest car to drive.” As Alpine gears up for the 2026 season with new Mercedes engines, Gasly is cautiously optimistic. “It’s definitely there. There’ll be a lot of work to do over the winter,” he noted, expressing excitement about the potential of the new chassis and engine lineup. “We’re hitting all our targets. So very excited for ’26.”
The departure of Renault after nearly 50 years in the sport added an emotional layer to the end of the season. Gasly acknowledged the bittersweet goodbye, saying, “It’s been quite an emotional weekend for everyone in the garage.” He reflected on the deep connections forged with the team, recognizing their unwavering support throughout his tenure. “I’m sure we’ll still see some of these faces in the paddock,” he added, hinting at the lasting relationships built over the years.
As Gasly prepares to leave this dismal season behind, he looks forward with hope and determination. The future beckons, and with a fresh start on the horizon, the racing world will be watching to see if Alpine can finally deliver a car worthy of its drivers.
