Pierre Gasly Issues Urgent Call for Alpine to Step Up Ahead of Thrilling F1 Season Opener
As the countdown to the new Formula 1 season ticks down, Alpine's Pierre Gasly is not holding back in his demands for improvement. The seasoned driver has made it unmistakably clear that there are multiple areas within the team that require significant enhancement before they hit the tracks of Melbourne. Yet, amidst the challenges, Gasly remains “feeling positive” about the road ahead.
For the first time, Team Enstone has partnered with a Mercedes power unit, having stepped away from its previous works entry status. This marks a pivotal shift in strategy, and Gasly's performance during the pre-season has been noteworthy. He ranked sixth in total laps completed during the private shakedown in Barcelona and the official tests in Bahrain, securing the eighth-fastest time in Sakhir’s final days of testing.
Reflecting on what he describes as an “unusual” pre-season, Gasly emphasizes the need for maximizing track time. With Alpine sitting firmly in the middle of the pack for laps completed, he insists that every moment spent on the track is crucial. “This has been an incredibly busy month for us, which is quite atypical for February in F1,” Gasly remarked after the intense testing concluded. “We have already had 10 days on track with the A526 across venues like Silverstone, Barcelona, and Bahrain, and I’m definitely ready and excited to race again.”
In a typical season, drivers would have merely a day and a half of preparation before the racing officially begins. However, this year has afforded them an impressive four and a half days of testing—an essential boost for a team introducing a new car. With over 1,000 laps logged, Alpine is determined to climb the ranks after a dismal performance that left them languishing at the bottom of the constructors' standings in 2025.
Despite the promising mileage, Gasly acknowledges the uphill battle that lies ahead. “I’m satisfied with what we’ve accomplished over the past month, and it’s been a tremendous effort from everyone on the team,” he stated emphatically. “However, there’s still a lot to analyze, and several key areas need our attention for us to find those much-needed improvements.”
Gasly is not resting on his laurels; he plans to dedicate two days at the Enstone headquarters next week, immersing himself in simulator work and collaborating closely with his team in preparation for the Australian Grand Prix. “This is an exhilarating time for us, and I eagerly anticipate putting in the hours before we hit the track in Australia,” he concluded.
With the stakes higher than ever and the pressure mounting, fans are left to wonder: Can Alpine rise to the occasion and transform their fortunes this season? One thing is for sure—Gasly's call to action is just the beginning of what promises to be a riveting F1 campaign.
