Piero Ferrari backs Lewis Hamilton to lead Ferrari’s return to championship glory in 2025

Ferrari’s Vice President, Piero Ferrari, has expressed unshakable confidence in Lewis Hamilton’s ability to restore the Prancing Horse to its championship-winning glory. As the seven-time world champion prepares to don the iconic red suit in the 2025 Formula 1 season, expectations are sky-high for one of the sport’s most electrifying partnerships in recent memory.

Hamilton’s dream move to Ferrari

Hamilton’s long-standing admiration for Ferrari is no secret, and according to Piero Ferrari, the Briton’s arrival is the culmination of a dream he has harbored since his early days in Formula 1. The Italian executive revealed that Hamilton had previously spoken to him about his desire to race for Ferrari during visits to the factory, where he customized the Ferraris he owns.

“The idea of racing one day with Ferrari and for Ferrari he already had it then, when he was simply a customer,” Ferrari said. “He had told me about it gracefully. I wasn’t surprised it arrived, and I was happy for the agreement.”

Ferrari went on to praise Hamilton’s “huge charisma” and remarkable racecraft, expressing optimism that the 40-year-old can deliver results immediately, provided the car is competitive.

“I hope he can win right away. Obviously, it will depend on the car we will be able to give him and Charles,” Ferrari added, referring to Hamilton’s soon-to-be teammate, Charles Leclerc.

A dynamic pairing with Leclerc

Ferrari is betting on Hamilton and Leclerc to form a formidable duo capable of taking on the likes of Max Verstappen and Red Bull. The pairing of Leclerc’s raw speed and Hamilton’s experience offers the team a balance of youthful energy and veteran composure.

“With Leclerc, they make a good couple. We’ve known Lewis for a long time,” Ferrari remarked. “He likes Ferraris. We saw each other in the past when he happened to go to the factory to choose the details of the machines he bought.”

Hamilton’s preparations and Ferrari’s resurgence

Hamilton’s transition to Ferrari is set to be seamless, thanks to an “elastic” testing schedule that will allow him to fine-tune the car and adapt to the team’s systems. Ferrari’s significant performance gains in 2024 have already provided motivation for Hamilton, who will aim to end a championship drought that stretches back to 2020.

Piero Ferrari struck an optimistic tone regarding Hamilton’s integration into the team, saying:
“Provided that in January we are all phenomena, I am optimistic.”

The upcoming season will be critical as Ferrari seeks to build on its recent progress. With multiple teams vying for the championship, Ferrari’s ability to provide Hamilton and Leclerc with a car capable of consistently competing at the front will be the deciding factor.

A long-awaited return to glory?

The 2025 season represents a fresh start for Hamilton, whose move to Ferrari marks a new chapter in an already legendary career. For Ferrari, it’s a chance to recapture the dominance that has eluded them since their last drivers’ championship with Kimi Räikkönen in 2007.

Fans and pundits alike are eagerly anticipating how this partnership will unfold. Can Hamilton deliver Ferrari’s long-awaited return to championship glory? Only time will tell, but the stage is set for a thrilling season.
