Oscar Piastri, the Australian driver for McLaren, expressed doubts about his chances of securing pole position in Monaco before finally securing a spot on the front row for the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Piastri admitted that during Friday’s practice sessions, they did not have a clear indication of where they stood in the pole position battle, stating that McLaren could be anywhere between first and tenth place. In the end, Piastri finished in second, just a tenth and a half behind pole winner Charles Leclerc. The qualifying session proved to be as tight as Piastri had predicted, with the gap between him and Leclerc stretching from second to sixth place. Reflecting on the weekend, Piastri mentioned that he initially had some doubts but felt good during qualifying. Although they faced some challenges throughout the weekend, the car performed well during the qualifying session. Piastri acknowledged that there were some corners where he wished he had done better, but mistakes are inevitable when pushing to the limit. He also pondered whether mistakes in corners 5 and 10 may have cost him the pole position. Despite the uncertainties, Piastri secured a spot on the front row for the Grand Prix. However, due to limited overtaking opportunities in Monaco, he believes the race will likely be won or lost in the pits rather than on the track.
