Marko Declares Piastri Superior to Norris, But the Path to Verstappen is Steep!

In a stunning revelation that could shake up the Formula 1 hierarchy, Red Bull’s chief advisor, Helmut Marko, has boldly proclaimed that Australian driver Oscar Piastri is outshining his teammate Lando Norris. This assertion comes amidst a tumultuous season where Red Bull has seemingly waved the white flag in the battle for the drivers’ championship, now dominated by the McLaren powerhouse.

Piastri’s meteoric rise in Formula 1 has been nothing short of extraordinary. Marko lauds the young racer, highlighting his incredible career trajectory and consistent performance. “Oscar has guts,” Marko stated emphatically. “He is more consistent and always brings out the best in himself.” While Norris may boast quicker times in single laps, Marko sees Piastri as the frontrunner in overall performance.

The backdrop of this dramatic commentary is the undeniable dominance of McLaren, which has clinched four consecutive double podiums in the last four races, leaving Red Bull and its star driver, Max Verstappen, grappling with the realization that they are currently outclassed. “We are learning how to optimize tire performance in these closing races,” Marko explained, acknowledging the unpredictable nature of the current season, where even Mercedes and Ferrari are experiencing their own ups and downs.

As speculation swirls around McLaren’s success, many in the paddock attribute this surge to Rob Marshall, a former Red Bull engineer who departed for McLaren in 2023. However, Marko downplayed this narrative, stating, “Those are just speculations. He is an excellent technician and certainly plays an important role, but success is ultimately a team effort.”

Despite the praise for Piastri, Marko remains realistic about the gap between the rising star and the reigning champion, Verstappen. “Oscar has had an incredible career and continues to improve year after year. But Verstappen is Verstappen. To reach his level, he has a long way to go.” This statement serves as a stark reminder of the challenges that lie ahead for Piastri, despite his evident potential to become a major player in the sport.

As the F1 season unfolds, all eyes will remain on Piastri and the resurgent McLaren team. Will he be able to bridge the gap to Verstappen, or will the reigning champion continue to reign supreme? One thing is for sure: the battle for supremacy in Formula 1 has never been more thrilling!
