Piastri and Norris dominate Qatar Grand Prix free practice: can Red Bull fight back?

The 2025 F1 Qatar Grand Prix is heating up, and the first free practice session has set the stage for an exhilarating showdown! In a stunning display of speed and precision, McLaren’s dynamic duo, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, dominated the track at the Lusail International Circuit, leaving competitors in their dust.

Piastri clocked an impressive lap time of 1:20.924s, snatching the top spot and showcasing his remarkable talent. Just a hair behind him was his teammate Norris, who trailed by a mere 0.058s. With this performance, Norris enters the weekend with a hefty 24-point lead over Piastri and the formidable Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing, heightening the stakes as he eyes the coveted F1 drivers’ championship.

However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for Verstappen, who expressed frustration with his RB21 throughout the practice session. The two-time world champion found himself struggling, ultimately finishing in sixth place, a staggering 0.580s behind the McLaren leaders. Such challenges raise questions about Red Bull’s strategy as they head into the critical sprint qualifying.

As the excitement builds for the weekend’s events, fans are eager to witness whether McLaren can maintain their momentum or if Verstappen will rally back to reclaim his position at the forefront of the competition. The results from this session are just the tip of the iceberg, with more thrilling action expected as teams gear up for the sprint qualifying.
