Phil Mickelson’s Struggles Continue in LIV Golf Season Opener

Despite his status as one of the greatest golfers of all time, Phil Mickelson’s performance in the LIV Golf circuit has been far from impressive since his controversial move in 2022. With a staggering $200 million paycheck, Mickelson’s expectations were high for the 2024 LIV campaign, but his start at the Greg Norman-designed El Camaleon Golf Course in Mayakoba, Mexico, was anything but successful.

Mickelson’s first round on Friday resulted in a disappointing 2-over round of 73, placing him 14 shots behind the leader. The second round was even worse, as Lefty struggled to a 6-over 77, tying his worst score in relation to par in his LIV Golf career. Although Sunday showed some improvement, Mickelson still couldn’t break par, finishing with a 3-over 74.

At 11-over for the week, Mickelson ended up tied for 51st place with Pat Perez and Peter Uihlein in the 54-player field. Only Harold Varner III fared worse, finishing at 14-over. This marked Mickelson’s worst finish in both the leaderboard and in relation to par since joining LIV Golf.

Despite the disappointing start, Mickelson remains optimistic. The 53-year-old golfer has proven time and time again that age is just a number, and he is determined to bounce back in the upcoming events. With his previous worst scores in relation to par being 10-over, Mickelson’s performance in Mayakoba was undoubtedly a setback. However, he has shown resilience in the past and is ready to put in the work to regain his form.

As the LIV Golf season continues, all eyes will be on Mickelson to see if he can turn things around. With his incredible career and unwavering dedication to the sport, it’s clear that Mickelson still has the potential to surprise and amaze fans around the world. Stay tuned for updates on Mickelson’s journey in the LIV Golf circuit.

MICKELSON STRUGGLES IN LIV GOLF, BUT HOPES FOR IMPROVEMENT IN LAS VEGAS

In a disappointing turn of events, golf superstar Phil Mickelson has only managed to secure two top-10 finishes since joining the LIV Golf circuit. The left-handed golfer’s best performance came at the Chicago event in 2022, where he finished tied for eighth place. Despite shooting an impressive 6-under, Mickelson ended up seven shots behind the event’s winner, Cameron Smith.

Another lackluster performance for Mickelson occurred at the 2023 event held at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey. Although he technically tied for ninth place with Charles Howell III, the official standings placed him in tenth due to how individual points were distributed over the first two seasons. Smith, once again, emerged victorious at this event, shooting an impressive 12-under.

With an average finish of 31.6 over his first 21 starts in LIV Golf individual competitions, Mickelson is undoubtedly seeking a better outcome in the upcoming Las Vegas tournament. The talented golfer will be hoping to make a significant improvement and climb up the leaderboard. Only time will tell if Mickelson can turn his luck around and secure a more favorable position in the rankings.
