The second era of Peugeot in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) comes to an end this weekend with the 8 Hours of Bahrain. There has been progress, including podium finishes, but victories and consistent fights for top positions are still far away – which makes the manufacturer consider different concepts for the 9X8.

The project’s technical director, Olivier Jansonnie, told Sportscar365.com: ‘We have evaluated many different concepts. The goal is to be better positioned next year, so we are analyzing this without any biased judgment or anything like that. We are just looking openly at it. We think the regulations have evolved a lot and the BoP, for the past two years. We are analyzing it openly’.

And the responsible emphasized that Peugeot wants, by all means, to have a more competitive car in 2024: ‘We are trying to do everything necessary to be better positioned next year, so the development has never really stopped. We are excited about what we can bring in terms of a new homologation’.

The Peugeot 9X8 is characterized by the lack of a rear wing and even that could change, with the car potentially being very different next year according to Jansonnie: ‘It is possible. It is part of the wildcard that we are presenting, obviously’.
