Peugeot has confirmed that it will bring back the GTi badge in a performance version of the current fully electric 208.
The confirmation of the return of the popular GTi was made by Alain Favey, CEO of the French brand, in statements to the British “AutoExpress“. “Today I am in a position to confirm that we will reintroduce the GTi in a version of the e-208 as soon as possible”.
The new CEO of Peugeot also noted that this decision “is a sign that we want to connect with our past. The GTi shows our performance orientation and our involvement in motorsport – performance is what Peugeot represents.”
Thus, the rebirth of the GTi will start with a 100% electric model from the current generation, although Peugeot has planned an update for the current model in 2026.
Alain Favey did not reveal technical details of the new 208 GTi, but the more sporty version of the electric 208 may utilize the same powertrain currently used by the Abarth 600e or the Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce, which uses a motor with 287 hp.
The new 208 GTi will thus be the first 100% electric model from the Sochaux brand, following the 308 GTi launched in 2021.
