Inspeção periódica de veículos fica mais cara em 2024

As of January 1, 2024, it will be more expensive to carry out mandatory periodic inspections on vehicles.

According to the Diário da República of this Friday, December 29, the inspection of light vehicles will cost €29.18, plus VAT, which represents an increase of €1.38 compared to the amount charged in 2023.

On the other hand, heavy vehicles will now pay €43.68 for the periodic inspection, plus VAT, which is an increase of €2.08 compared to the €41.69 charged in 2023. Motorcycles, tricycles, and quadricycles will now pay €14.70, plus 23% VAT. In case of reinspection, the amount with VAT increases by 42 cents, to €8.99, as a result of an update from €6.97 to €7.31.

The increase in tariffs for next year is attributed to the inflation rate set by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

“Considering that according to the latest update from INE on December 14, 2023, referring to November 2023, of the ‘Consumer Price Index,’ the annual measured variation rate (excluding housing) was set at 4.98%, it is necessary to calculate the impact of this index on the current tariffs, in order to standardize the amounts to be paid for all ITV’s,” states the decision of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Mobility and Transport (IMT), published in the Diário da República.
