Perez finished just 0.066 seconds behind Max Verstappen’s fastest time in qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix. In the race, he secured second place behind his teammate, contributing to Red Bull Racing’s third 1-2 finish in the 2024 Formula 1 season.

However, the race was not without challenges. Track temperatures were the highest of the weekend, resulting in increased tire degradation. It was only when conditions became cloudy later on that the track temperature dropped, allowing Perez to regain his second position after being overtaken by McLaren’s Lando Norris.

In the Red Bull race report, Perez expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance. He acknowledged the initial struggle with tire degradation and the difficulty in maximizing the medium tires due to balance and track temperature. Despite these setbacks, he highlighted the team’s ability to overcome issues during the race, which was an improvement from the previous year.

Perez also expressed optimism for the upcoming races, stating that the team is in a good position and performing well. He emphasized the importance of maintaining progress and building confidence. Perez believes that his consistent performance in Suzuka will have a positive impact on the future.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner praised Perez’s performance in Japan, commending his strong qualifying and impressive race. Horner highlighted Perez’s ability to navigate through the field and maintain a strong pace.

With his second place in Suzuka, Perez now sits in second place in the 2024 F1 Constructors’ Championship, trailing his teammate Verstappen by 13 points after four races this season.
