Penalty Points Tracker: 2025 Formula 1 Drivers’ Licences – Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso lead the way the sit at the bench

In Formula 1, drivers can be penalized by the stewards for infractions, earning penalty points on their racing licences. If a driver accumulates 12 points within a 12-month period, they receive an automatic race ban. The most recent example occurred in 2024 when Kevin Magnussen missed the Azerbaijan Grand Prix due to such a ban.

Below is the current breakdown of penalty points for each 2025 F1 driver, along with the reasons and expiration dates for those points. This list will be updated as the season progresses.


2025 Penalty Points by Driver

Fernando Alonso: 8 Points

  1. Incident at Turn 6-7:
    • Reason: Driving unnecessarily slowly, erratically, or dangerously.
    • Expiry: March 24, 2025
    • Points: 3
  2. Collision with Carlos Sainz in Sprint Race:
    • Reason: Causing a collision.
    • Expiry: April 20, 2025
    • Points: 3
  3. Collision with Guanyu Zhou in Sprint Race:
    • Reason: Causing a collision.
    • Expiry: June 29, 2025
    • Points: 2

Max Verstappen: 8 Points

  1. Collision with Lando Norris:
    • Reason: Forcing Norris off the track.
    • Expiry: October 27, 2025
    • Points: 2
  2. Causing a collision with Franco Colapinto:
    • Expiry: November 3, 2025
    • Points: 2
  3. VSC Infringement:
    • Reason: Violating Virtual Safety Car rules.
    • Expiry: November 2, 2025
    • Points: 1
  4. Driving unnecessarily slowly in qualifying:
    • Reason: Impeding George Russell.
    • Expiry: November 30, 2025
    • Points: 1
  5. Collision with Oscar Piastri:
    • Expiry: December 8, 2025
    • Points: 2

Nico Hulkenberg: 4 Points

  1. Unsafe release in Sprint Race:
    • Expiry: May 4, 2025
    • Points: 1
  2. Collision with Pierre Gasly:
    • Expiry: May 26, 2025
    • Points: 2
  3. Collision with Kevin Magnussen:
    • Expiry: December 1, 2025

  1. Forcing Fernando Alonso off the track:

    • Points: 2

Lando Norris: 3 Points

  1. Collision with Valtteri Bottas:
    • Expiry: December 1, 2025

  2. Failed to maintain 10-car length distance behind Safety Car:
    • Expiry: December 1, 2025
    • Points: 1

Esteban Ocon: 3 Points

  1. Causing a collision with Alex Albon:
    • Expiry: December 1, 2025
    • Points: 2
  2. Driving unnecessarily slowly during Safety Car period:
    • Expiry: December 1, 2025
    • Points: 1

Alex Albon: 2 Points

  1. Collision with Max Verstappen:

    • Points: 2

Ollie Bearman: 2 Points

  1. Collision with Franco Colapinto:
    • Expiry: November 3, 2025

  • Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen sit at the top with 8 penalty points, leaving them just 4 points away from a race ban.
