In a shocking turn of events at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri from McLaren missed out on a potential victory due to an early braking decision, allowing Max Verstappen to swoop in and claim the lead. Piastri’s conservative approach backfired as Verstappen seized the opportunity and never looked back, securing his position at the front of the pack. Despite the challenges posed by VSC and Safety Cars, Piastri acknowledged that his race was lost in that crucial first braking moment.

Expressing his disappointment, Piastri admitted that it was not McLaren’s finest day, stating, “I braked too early. It was also a good move by Max. It was obviously disappointing, but after that, we made some wrong decisions. It wasn’t our best Sunday, so there are definitely a lot of things to review and analyze. Congratulations to Max and Red Bull. It was a good move, and they had the pace today.”

Reflecting on the race, Piastri highlighted the challenges he faced, particularly with tire management and grip issues. Despite his best efforts to defend his position, he ultimately had to yield to Norris, saying, “I tried my best to hold on [to second place], but I didn’t have enough grip. I tried my best, but it was inevitable that he [Norris] would pass, but I wasn’t going to give up without a fight.”
