Oscar Piastri says competition has been close with teammate Lando Norris in the 2024 F1 season.

Oscar Piastri is currently lagging behind Lando Norris by 44 points in the current standings of the 2024 driver’s championship. The McLaren driver has expressed admiration for his teammate, acknowledging that their intense competition has motivated him to perform better both on and off the track, thereby increasing the team’s chances in the title race.

This season, McLaren has undergone a remarkable transformation compared to previous years, actively challenging top teams like Ferrari and Red Bull for the 2024 title. Currently, Lando Norris leads the papaya team, consistently delivering strong performances with a victory at the Miami Grand Prix and six podium finishes in eleven races.

According to Oscar Piastri, McLaren’s significant developments have given their drivers an advantage over their competitors on the grid. The 23-year-old Australian also acknowledges that Norris has often been faster than him, but his presence has been a motivating force for the team throughout the campaign.

Oscar Piastri is determined to outperform Lando Norris in the upcoming races, as he currently trails the British driver by 44 points. This competitive spirit within McLaren will undoubtedly contribute to their pursuit of a first title triumph since 2008.

There are reports that McLaren team principal, Zak Brown, has promised Norris a special car if he manages to win the championship this season. Norris, who currently sits in second place in the standings, could potentially close the 81-point gap and secure the title.

Lando Norris has confirmed that an agreement has been made with Zak Brown regarding a specific car, which will only be revealed if he becomes the champion. The 24-year-old driver refuses to rule out the possibility of scoring more points than Max Verstappen, emphasizing that there is still a long way to go until the end of the season.

Zak Brown has consistently supported Norris and the McLaren team. The upcoming race at Silverstone, their home circuit, will be a crucial test of the papaya outfit’s ability to secure victories and podium finishes as they strive to catch up to Red Bull in this thrilling competition between the two teams.
