Young gun Oscar Piastri dominated the track at the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix, setting the fastest time in FP2 and leaving big names like George Russell and Max Verstappen in his dust by nearly three-tenths of a second.
Under the scorching sun and humid conditions at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Piastri showcased his talent by clocking an impressive 1:12.760 on soft tires, outshining his competitors. Russell followed in second place with a time of 1:13.046, while Verstappen and Norris closely trailed behind with identical times of 1:13.070.
The day saw a shift in leadership from Norris in FP1 to Piastri in FP2, with drivers like Esteban Ocon and Franco Colapinto also making their presence felt on the track. Despite some early setbacks, including a spin by Ollie Bearman, all 20 drivers pushed the limits during the session.
As the session progressed, Piastri’s mastery became evident as he seized control during the soft tire runs, leaving his rivals struggling to match his pace. Even the seasoned veterans like Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton faced challenges, with Hamilton finishing the session in 11th place, far from the lead.
With the final practice session looming before qualifying, teams will analyze the data from Friday’s runs to fine-tune their strategies for the remainder of the weekend. As the tension builds on the track, all eyes will be on Piastri to see if he can maintain his momentum and secure a strong position for the upcoming race day.
