In a thrilling turn of events at the Canadian Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri defended his strategic decision to opt for the soft tires during qualifying, securing a P3 grid slot behind George Russell and Max Verstappen. Despite acknowledging that pole position might have been within reach with the medium tires, Piastri stood by his choice, deeming it the best for his team after a challenging lead-up to the session.

The qualifying session in Canada witnessed a fierce battle between the soft and medium tires, with drivers facing a tough decision on which compound to use for their one-lap showdown. While Russell and Verstappen went for the medium tires, Piastri stuck with the softs, a move that ultimately paid off for the Championship leader.

Reflecting on his qualifying performance, Piastri expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, considering the struggles he faced in practice sessions leading up to the crucial session. Despite the temptation to switch to the medium tires, Piastri emphasized the importance of consistency and minimizing variables, which played to his advantage in securing the P3 grid slot.

With a golden opportunity to extend his Championship lead on the line, Piastri remains focused on the race ahead, holding a 10-point advantage over his closest rival, Lando Norris, who qualified in P7 for the Grand Prix. As the anticipation builds for the main race, all eyes will be on Piastri as he aims to maintain his position at the top of the standings.
