Last year, Oscar Piastri was the best rookie in Formula 1. After a period of adaptation where the results were more discreet, he began to be able to fight for more important goals, achieved more than one podium and even won a Sprint race.
The McLaren driver spoke about his learnings to the championship’s official website: ‘There were many lessons. I think, for me, you can’t rest. Making a mistake in Formula 1 costs you much more than it can cost in another case. All drivers are extremely competitive. All teams are now extremely competitive, and if you have a little calm you can suddenly lose a lot of time, many positions. So, probably that’s the biggest one’.
On the other hand, Piastri had to learn at the level of driving the car: ‘There were specific things in driving and energy management. It was a busy year. But because of how competitive everything was, not being able to rest on your laurels [was the biggest lesson’.
