In a thrilling second practice session at the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri outshined Mercedes’ George Russell to claim the top spot on the timesheets. Piastri made a bold statement midway through the session, surpassing his competitors with a blistering lap time. His impressive performance dethroned Russell, who had initially set the pace early on.

The session kicked off with Piastri’s teammate, Lando Norris, setting a quick time on medium tires, continuing his strong form from FP1. However, it was Russell who eventually stole the show with a series of rapid laps, including a scorching 1m13.046s on the softest compound.
Despite fierce competition from drivers like Max Verstappen and Norris, Piastri’s exceptional lap of 1m12.760s remained unchallenged at the top throughout the session, showcasing his speed and skill behind the wheel.

Behind Piastri and Russell, Verstappen and Norris closely followed, with Charles Leclerc securing the fifth spot for Ferrari. The session also saw Fernando Alonso impressively clinching seventh place in front of his home crowd, adding excitement to the mix.
As teams shifted focus to long runs towards the end of the session, Piastri’s dominance highlighted McLaren’s potential for a strong performance in the upcoming races.

Despite a spin into the gravel by Oliver Bearman early on, the session concluded without major incidents, setting the stage for an action-packed weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
With Piastri leading the charge, the competition is heating up in Spain as teams prepare for the main event. Stay tuned for more updates as the F1 Spanish Grand Prix unfolds.
