Opel Grandland hybrid gains 48V technology

Opel has announced that the Grandland SUV now offers a hybrid powertrain with 48V technology, already available in other Stellantis models.

This means that the propulsion system of the new Opel Grandland Hybrid includes a lithium-ion battery, installed under the driver’s seat, which charges automatically under certain driving conditions, as well as a new 1.2-liter turbo gasoline engine, with three cylinders and 136 hp, specifically developed for hybrid use and is associated with a new electrified dual-clutch six-speed transmission and a 28 hp electric motor.

These numbers allow the Grandland Hybrid to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10 seconds and reach a top speed of up to 200 km/h.

Benefiting from this hybrid technology, the new Grandland announces consumption and emissions values that are 15% lower than the model equipped with a combustion engine. The electric motor supports the gasoline engine during acceleration and starting from a standstill situation and contributes torque, especially at low speeds.

At low speeds, the electric motor also allows for 100% electric driving for up to one kilometer or up to 50% of driving time in the city. When the Grandland Hybrid slows down at higher speeds, the gasoline engine shuts off, causing the electric motor to act as a generator to recharge the 48-volt battery of the hybrid system.

“With the new electrified hybrid system, the driving pleasure in the Grandland becomes even more efficient. Consumption and emissions decrease, driving comfort increases, without drivers having to get used to the process,” said Patrick Dinger, Opel’s representative in Germany.

Opel has announced that the new Grandland Hybrid with 48-volt technology is available for a starting price of €41,167.
