Oliver Bearman, the rising star of Formula 1, has experienced a dramatic surge in confidence thanks to a groundbreaking upgrade from Haas that debuted at the British Grand Prix in July. Describing the transformation as “crazy,” the 20-year-old rookie showcased his potential by achieving his best-ever qualifying position, securing an impressive eighth place.

Despite facing setbacks that resulted in an 11th place finish during the race—largely due to a controversial 10-place grid penalty for disregarding red flags in practice—Bearman rebounded spectacularly in Belgium. He broke an agonizing eight-race streak without points, finishing seventh in the sprint race, a position he held from the start. Although his quest for further points in the grand prix was thwarted by an engine issue and questionable strategy, Bearman’s resurgence was undeniable.

The young driver continued to dazzle in Hungary, outqualifying his seasoned teammate Esteban Ocon, only for a mechanical failure to prematurely end his race. Nevertheless, Bearman’s improvement over the last three race weekends stands in stark contrast to his rocky start to the season, which saw him languishing at the bottom of the driver standings following the Australian opener.

“I haven’t found my confidence until we brought the Silverstone upgrade to the car,” Bearman revealed, reflecting on the dramatic turnaround. “Since then, I’ve had a really good feeling, and I’ve been able to replicate that feeling – and that’s crazy. You can’t describe it, but you chase it, you chase it, you chase it and when you can have it, it’s very special.”

When questioned about whether the upgrade marks a “proper start” to his season, Bearman enthusiastically agreed, revealing his optimism for the remaining ten races. “It’s a car that I feel fully comfortable in,” he stated, drawing a stark contrast to his previous struggles with balance. “Now we’ve managed to replicate that and from now, I think we can do a lot with this car.”

Bearman’s aspirations for the remainder of the 2025 season are crystal clear: he is determined to keep the momentum going and assist Haas in their fierce battle for ninth place in the highly competitive midfield. “I hope we can replicate the feeling that I’ve had in the previous two races,” said Bearman, who trails Ocon by 19 points.

He acknowledged that both qualifying and race performance have been marred by missed opportunities. “Silverstone I had a penalty, Spa we simply missed out on opportunities. But clearly, the car has pace, so there is a lot of potential there. Step by step, we’re going to improve and get better.”

Bearman is poised to maintain this upward trajectory, and with a clear vision of scoring valuable points in the second half of the season, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as this young talent continues to rise. The future looks bright for Bearman and Haas as they navigate the thrilling twists and turns of the 2025 Formula 1 season.
