Oliver Bearman blasts online trolls targeting Kimi Antonelli: FIA intervenes amid shocking abuse

Rookie Racer Oliver Bearman Unleashes Fury on Online Trolls Targeting Kimi Antonelli: “Scum of the Earth!”

In a dramatic turn of events following the 2025 Qatar Grand Prix, Oliver Bearman, a rising star in Formula 1, has taken a bold stand against the shocking wave of online abuse directed at fellow rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli. In a furious condemnation, Bearman branded the perpetrators as “scum of the earth,” amplifying the outcry against the toxic culture that plagues social media in the motorsport community.

The turmoil erupted after Antonelli faced an onslaught of vitriol on social platforms, ignited by a critical moment in the Losail race where a misjudgment allowed Lando Norris to seize the opportunity and overtake him. Instead of acknowledging the inherent challenges of racing, fans of the sport launched a barrage of unfounded accusations, erroneously suggesting that Antonelli had deliberately let Norris pass. This misplaced blame highlights the dangerous and misguided nature of online criticism.

Bearman, who has experienced his own share of online hostility, empathized with Antonelli’s plight, asserting, “I didn’t face that level of criticism, but that comes as part of being in a team like Haas rather than Mercedes. So, you know, there’s also a benefit of starting your career in a team like Haas. You’re a bit less in the limelight.” His words echo a larger issue in the sport—rookies often face the brunt of intense scrutiny, a pressure that seasoned drivers are somewhat better equipped to handle.

The Haas driver did not hold back in his assessment of the trolls, stating, “I think generally it’s always the case that people behind the screen are horrible and they’re scum of the earth, really.” He expressed deep concern for Antonelli, emphasizing the emotional toll such abuse can take on newcomers to the sport. “I understand that people who’ve been in F1 for a very long time can get used to it, but for rookies, it may be their first experience having that type of criticism, but that criticism is an absolute joke. It shouldn’t be tolerated.”

Bearman’s passionate defense of Antonelli comes amid a backdrop of growing awareness regarding mental health in sports. “We’re putting our lives on the line to entertain people,” he declared. “You have people like that who are just hurting people, and that’s not just racing; that’s also in their personal life. I just think people are terrible. The real people of the world are terrible.”

In response to the backlash against Antonelli, the FIA stepped in with a statement of support for the beleaguered Mercedes driver, underscoring the organization’s commitment to combating online abuse. Furthermore, Red Bull’s Helmut Marko issued a public apology for initially blaming Antonelli for the incident. “I took another close look at the footage,” Marko stated. “The first time, Antonelli could have held his ground a little better, but the second time, it was a driving error and not intentional. I’m sorry that Antonelli got so much flak online. To clarify once again: he didn’t let Norris pass on purpose.”

As the motorsport world rallies around Kimi Antonelli, the call for respect and accountability in online interactions has never been more urgent. With the FIA and drivers like Oliver Bearman leading the charge, there’s hope that the toxic tide of online abuse can be stemmed, fostering a more supportive environment for athletes at all levels. The fight against cyberbullying in sports is just beginning, and it’s time for the community to take a stand against the “scum of the earth.”
