Ogier’s Age Threatens Victory as Rival Dominates: Risk and Fear on the Edge

Sebastien Ogier, the eight-time world champion, is facing a harsh reality on the rally stages as he grapples with the impact of age on his approach to risk-taking. During the Tejeda test, where he fell behind by 8.4s, Ogier openly admitted that his age is forcing him to reconsider the level of risks he is willing to endure in the pursuit of victory.

The Hyundai technical director, François-Xavier Demaison, pointed out the surprising performance of a Finn, outshining Ogier on the challenging blacktop. Ogier humorously acknowledged that even a double espresso wouldn’t suffice to match the pace set by Rovanperä during the rally. The Tejeda stage, known for its high speeds and treacherous cliff-edge roads, proved to be a daunting challenge for the seasoned driver.

Acknowledging the dangers of the Tejeda test, Ogier expressed his reluctance to push the limits at his age, highlighting the heightened difficulty of staying on the edge in such extreme conditions beyond the age of 40. Meanwhile, Rovanperä’s exceptional performance showcased a remarkable sense of flow and ease, propelling him to a significant lead in the rally.

With Rovanperä dominating the competition and Ogier trailing behind, the rally dynamics are shifting as age and experience collide with youthful vigor and daring driving skills. As spectators witness this thrilling battle on the rally stages, the question remains: will Ogier’s wisdom and experience prevail, or will Rovanperä’s fearless approach secure him the ultimate victory?
