The continuity in Formula 1 with the São Paulo Grand Prix at Interlagos is guaranteed until 2030. The five-year renewal was announced this Friday, alongside this year’s Brazilian race.

Interlagos is one of the most traditional circuits in the championship, being on the calendar consecutively since 1990 – except for 2020, due to the pandemic. Before that, the first race counting towards a championship was in 1973, with a race that didn’t belong to the World Championship calendar taking place a year earlier. The local audience also responds massively to the event annually, as evidenced by the 235,000 fans who attended the stands in 2022.

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of F1, stated in a press release: ‘I am very pleased to announce that we will stay in Interlagos until 2030, and I can’t wait for many more years of the wonderful atmosphere that Brazilian fans bring. Brazil has such a rich racing tradition, and this iconic circuit is a favorite among drivers and fans around the world. It embodies everything that is great about racing, and we are looking forward to seeing how it develops over the next few years to create an even better experience’.

The São Paulo Grand Prix continues to be promoted by MC Brazil Motorsport in collaboration with the São Paulo City Hall, also having parallel initiatives in the environmental and social levels. The mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes, emphasized the importance of the race for the city: ‘The extension of the contract for the São Paulo Formula 1 Grand Prix, broadcast in approximately 180 countries, consolidates our city as a global leader in hosting major events with economic and social impact, generating jobs, revenue, and opportunities. Each year, we also advance in our sustainability agenda, incorporating innovations to overcome challenges and bring more benefits to the city of São Paulo and Brazil’.

As for the event’s executive director, Alan Adler, he commented: ‘It is a great honor to have the contract extension that guarantees São Paulo’s place on the Formula 1 calendar. This is a recognition of the work we have done, with the crucial support of the São Paulo City Hall. Continuing to be a partner of Formula 1 is a source of great pride. Now, we will immediately start planning the upcoming years so that we can have even better editions of the Grand Prix in the future’.
