Fernando Alonso’s continuity in Formula 1 with Aston Martin in 2025 has been confirmed. The announcement was made this Thursday, with the new contract valid until the end of 2026.
This puts an end to the rumors of recent weeks, which linked the Spaniard to a possible future at Mercedes – where Lewis Hamilton is leaving for Ferrari next season.
Quoted by the official F1 website, team boss Mike Krack stated: ‘Securing Fernando’s long-term future with Aston Martin is fantastic news. We have built a strong working relationship over the past 18 months and share the same determination to see this project succeed’.
After returning to F1 with Alpine in 2021, Alonso moved to Aston Martin last year. It was a surprising decision and met with much skepticism, which the two-time world champion quickly countered with a series of six podiums in the first eight races last year.
The level has dropped since then, but Alonso and Aston Martin remain a force to be reckoned with in the fight for the top six and, occasionally, for podium positions – currently battling to be the third force in the Constructors’ World Championship behind Red Bull and Ferrari and on par with McLaren and Mercedes.
By staying until 2026, Alonso will reunite with Honda power units – the Japanese manufacturer will be a factory partner of Aston Martin from that season, which is marked by the introduction of new regulations.
