Ocon criticizes Alpine’s unfair treatment regarding the F1 team directive in Canada.

Ocon critica tratamento injusto da Alpine em relação à diretriz da equipe de F1 no Canadá.

Esteban Ocon, a member of the Alpine F1 team, expressed his dissatisfaction with how the team handled the team order controversy that overshadowed his impressive double points finish at the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix. Ocon was unable to hold onto his eighth place position against Daniel Ricciardo in the final laps, and Alpine decided to switch the race order to allow Pierre Gasly to chase the Red Bull. Initially, Ocon ignored the instruction, but eventually moved aside to let his teammate pass between turns 7 and 8 on the penultimate lap. However, Gasly was too far behind Ricciardo to make up the difference and improve Alpine’s score. Ocon believed he deserved Gasly to give back the position once it became clear he couldn’t overtake Ricciardo. Despite being happy for the team’s success, Ocon argued that the order should have been reversed in this specific case. He followed the team’s instructions, as he always has throughout his career, but felt disappointed because the team didn’t do their part on this occasion. When asked if he suspected these events unfolded because it was confirmed he would be leaving the team, Ocon responded by saying he would give them the benefit of the doubt.

Following the race, the Franco-British brand clarified that they considered Nico Hulkenberg’s Haas as a potential threat if they had opted to switch positions at the end.

“At the end of the race, Esteban encountered an energy management issue, which affected his performance,” Alpine explained.

At the start of lap 68, Esteban was instructed to let Pierre pass him to give Pierre the opportunity to challenge Ricciardo for 8th place.

“The reason behind this decision was that Esteban’s performance was decreasing due to a suspected issue with the power unit, and the team had confidence that Pierre could attack Ricciardo with the help of DRS.

“Esteban then allowed Pierre to overtake him at turn 8 on lap 69. However, it was already too late as Ricciardo had pulled too far ahead for Pierre to apply pressure. Additionally, with Hulkenberg posing a threat from behind, it was considered too risky to revert to previous positions. What matters is that the team managed to secure valuable double points.”

Ocon emphasized that he will disclose his plans for 2025 “at the appropriate time,” but acknowledged that his performance in Montreal will not harm his prospects with potential suitors.

The winner of a Formula 1 race climbed from 18th on the starting grid to achieve his second points finish of the season, and he was on track to surpass his teammate without any interference.

“Obviously, I started at the back of the pack. However, we made the correct decisions at every moment,” he recounted. “And, you know, I was able to challenge several faster cars during that period.

“And that was satisfying, of course, but it’s a somewhat disappointing result.

“Nevertheless, I remain optimistic for the rest of the year, that I can push the car to the limit. However, there is still a lot of work to be done together with this team.”

The race started with an electrifying start, with the cars accelerating to the maximum to secure the best position. However, British driver James Hamilton was not willing to stay behind and started pressuring Silva for the first place.

The battle between Silva and Hamilton was the highlight of the race. The two drivers engaged in several spectacular overtakes, earning applause from the audience. At one point, Hamilton managed to take the lead, but Silva did not give up and regained the position shortly after.
