In a social media post, Ocon expressed that he and the BWT Alpine F1 team have mutually agreed to part ways at the end of the 2024 F1 season. Ocon acknowledged the significant role that the Enstone-Viry family has played in his career, from his time in the Lotus junior program. He expressed gratitude for the opportunities he had with the team, including achieving his first podium and first Formula 1 victory. Ocon also thanked the countless individuals he met during his time with the team, recognizing their hard work, passion, dedication, kindness, and support. Despite the impending change, Ocon emphasized his commitment to the team for the remainder of the season and their collective efforts to improve performance on the track. He mentioned that news about his future beyond 2024 will be announced at a later date. Ocon concluded his statement in French, expressing appreciation to the French fans who have supported him and the team over the years.
Although the decision to part ways seems amicable, Ocon’s actions during the Monaco Grand Prix did not work in his favor. He collided with his teammate Pierre Gasly during the first lap of the race, resulting in his own elimination from the competition. Gasly, on the other hand, managed to finish in tenth place. Team principal Bruno Famin promised that there would be consequences for this unnecessary and foolish contact. Speculations arose about a possible suspension of one or two races for Ocon, but the Alpine team decided to cut ties with him, effectively ending his career with them.
