The current record for the fastest Formula 1 pit stop belongs to McLaren, which took only 1.8 seconds to send Lando Norris’ car back on track after a stop at the last Grand Prix in Qatar in October.
Now, Red Bull Racing is celebrating the mark of 2.84 seconds for the same task… Why? It was the time it took for the world champion Formula 1 team to change all four tires of the car… completely in the dark!
After ten attempts, Red Bull actually achieved the goal of performing a pit stop in less than three seconds, an unprecedented feat recorded on video by 27 cameras, during which only the driver and two team members, in front and behind the car, responsible for the hydraulic jacks, were equipped with night vision goggles to ensure that the positioning of the fittings was correct.
