The French driver Sami Meguetounif, from Trident Racing team, secured his first victory in the FIA Formula 3 Championship at the famous Imola circuit on Sunday. Meguetounif showcased his skills and experience by effectively managing his tires throughout the Main Race, defeating Oliver Goethe, who had won the Sprint Race on Saturday. Despite an engine issue in the middle of the race, Meguetounif’s teammate Leonardo Fornaroli fought back to finish third and take the lead in the drivers’ standings. The Sprint Race was full of chaos, but Goethe took advantage of a Virtual Safety Car on the last lap to secure the win. Starting from pole position, Trident’s Santiago Ramos led the way, with Fornaroli alongside him on the front row and Meguetounif in third, creating a Trident 1-2-3 on the grid. The championship battle was intense before the race, with Browning, Fornaroli, and Mini tied for the lead with 37 points. Fornaroli had the best chance to take the lead, starting in second, while Mini began in sixth and Browning in ninth. As the race began, Meguetounif faced pressure from Red Bull Juniors drivers Lindblad and Goethe. Fornaroli and Ramos were evenly matched at the front, with Fornaroli eventually overtaking his teammate to take the lead. Browning also made progress, moving up to seventh place. Goethe quickly rose to third and started chasing the leaders, fueled by his success in the Sprint Race. Browning’s progress was briefly halted when an overtaking attempt failed, leaving him vulnerable to Beganovic. Goethe continued to impress, eventually passing Ramos to take the lead. Fornaroli had a temporary engine issue, dropping to fifth place and undoing his initial progress. Ramos was now chasing Goethe, with Meguetounif in second and a train of cars following closely. Ramos did not heed his engineer’s advice to drive smoothly, and his tires suffered, causing him to fall behind Goethe and Meguetounif. As the race progressed, the championship battle remained tight, with Fornaroli in third and Browning closing in on him. Meguetounif closed the gap to Goethe and eventually overtook him to take the lead with the help of DRS. Fornaroli tried to challenge Goethe for second place but could not make the pass. Meguetounif comfortably maintained his lead until the end, securing a well-deserved victory. Goethe finished in second place, wrapping up a successful weekend in Imola, while Fornaroli completed the podium. Browning’s impressive rise from ninth to fourth showcased his skills, and Beganovic finished fifth. Fornaroli now leads the championship with 52 points, followed by Browning with 49 points and Beganovic with 45 points.
