Norris: Winning a race at home would be an incredible achievement.

Instagram Lando Norris

Norris could have emerged victorious in the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday if Max Verstappen had a different mindset and if fate had been more favorable. However, we all know that was not the case. Speculating about what could have been does not lead to race wins. The primary objective for McLaren, without a doubt, is to be in contention until the end.

As he prepares for his home race, Norris did not mention his altercation with Verstappen in the team preview. Instead, he expressed his excitement for the British Grand Prix and his love for the Silverstone circuit. Being the home race for both him and the team, the support from the local fans adds an extra layer of significance.

“We are aware that we have a fast car capable of competing for victories at all types of circuits, which makes us even more enthusiastic about the remainder of the season. Achieving a podium finish at Silverstone last year was an incredible experience, but winning at our home race would take it to another level. Let’s go!” exclaimed Norris, who will be participating in his sixth British Grand Prix in his F1 career.

How Norris approaches the battle against Verstappen this weekend will reveal a lot. The collision in Austria has created anticipation for their reactions in the Formula 1 community. Despite the extensive discussions surrounding the incident, the true test will take place on the track, in the heat of competition.

Oscar Piastri, who demonstrated his potential with an impressive second-place performance in the Austrian GP Sprint Race, is also capable of making an impact. He is not afraid to get involved in a fierce contest. With McLaren having a car that can finally match Verstappen’s Red Bull, Piastri is expected to have a chance as well.

And Piastri is well aware of it: “Claiming a podium finish in Austria provides great motivation heading into the final race of this triple-header. Silverstone is one of my favorite circuits, and it holds special significance for McLaren as their home Grand Prix. I am certain that we will witness many passionate McLaren fans in the stands. I had some unforgettable moments there last year, and I anticipate another thrilling weekend. Most importantly, I hope to continue accumulating more points for the team.”

While Verstappen shoulders the majority of the burden for Red Bull, with Sergio Perez struggling to find his previous form, McLaren can rely on a two-pronged attack when their drivers confront their rival, Max.

Concluding the team’s preview, McLaren F1 team manager Andrea Stella expressed that they approach the final round of this triple header with increased motivation and resilience compared to the beginning. Despite facing challenges, there are also numerous positives to take away from the recent races.

The Silverstone Grand Prix holds a special place for the team, not only because of the incredible support from fans, but also because many team members bring along their friends and family. Returning to the front of the grid is certainly gratifying, but it is important to recognize that each weekend will present its own set of challenges due to the strong competition.

Nevertheless, when considering the skills and dedication of our drivers and team members, both at the track and in Woking, Stella is confident that we possess a team capable of consistently delivering impressive results. Currently, McLaren holds the third position on the 2024 F1 Constructors points table, with Norris in second place and Piastri in sixth place in the Driver’s standings ahead of Round 12, the British GP.
