Norris diz que McLaren tem potencial para competir pelo Campeonato de F1 em 2025.

Lando Norris, McLaren F1 Team, 1st position, and the McLaren team celebrate victory and dedicate the win to the late Gil de Ferran

Lando Norris, from the McLaren Formula 1 team, clinched the top spot and the McLaren team is celebrating the victory and dedicating it to the late Gil de Ferran.

McLaren’s victory in Miami the previous Sunday marked their first win since Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo led Lando Norris to a one-two finish at Monza in 2021. McLaren, the second most successful team in Formula 1 history in terms of race wins, has not won a championship title since Lewis Hamilton, now a seven-time Formula 1 world champion, secured his first in 2008.

When asked about McLaren’s potential as a championship contender in a year’s time, Norris expressed his belief to Sky Sports television, stating: “I am fully confident that we can be. And I say that with a realistic perspective. Despite my earlier statement this year about our ability to win races, I really believe that next year we can push further and take the next step forward.”

Norris emerged victorious in Miami, finishing 7.6 seconds ahead of Red Bull’s three-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen, after a Safety Car period played into his favor. Verstappen had won four of the five previous races this season. Red Bull later revealed that Verstappen had damaged the floor of his car when he hit a post.

Reflecting on his victory, Norris commented: “I am aware that something has changed within me. Becoming a race winner, undoubtedly, has made an impact. However, this change does not alter my approach. I remain the same person, still hungry for more wins.”

Norris also expressed his belief that McLaren, currently in third place in the Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship, with Ferrari in second, has the potential to achieve more victories this year. He stated: “I anticipate an exciting season ahead, with fierce competition between McLaren, Red Bull, and Ferrari. Although we still have work to do to reach their level, I am confident in our abilities.”

Furthermore, Norris hopes that his relationship with Verstappen, a friend and respected competitor, will evolve. He stated: “I am sure our dynamics will change. Although we have mutual respect and get along well, we are not best friends exchanging daily messages. However, I hold Verstappen in high regard. I want to challenge him, race against him, and battle on the track, because I firmly believe he is one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers. Proving myself against him means proving myself against one of the best,” concluded the British driver. (Reported by Alan Baldwin)
