Norris elogia a Ferrari por progresso significativo na F1 2024.

Charles Leclerc, from Monaco, drove the Ferrari SF-24 car during the Formula 1 World Championship, specifically at the Australian Grand Prix in Albert Park, Melbourne, Australia, on March 24, 2024.

Lando Norris expresses that he is not surprised by the difference between McLaren and Red Bull, as he believes that Ferrari’s progress in 2024 has been the most remarkable among all Formula 1 teams.

McLaren had an extraordinary turnaround last season, going from struggling to score points to consistently achieving podium finishes. This success was made possible due to faulty car designs from Ferrari and Mercedes early in the season and the limitations imposed by the cost cap.

However, Ferrari’s revamped SF-24 car for 2024 emerged as the closest competitor to Red Bull, securing podiums in all three races and even achieving a one-two finish in Australia.

Norris praises Ferrari’s improvement, but also gets excited about McLaren’s proximity to the two main teams in the championship. When asked about his expectations regarding the gap to Red Bull at this early stage, Norris replied: “The gap to Red Bull is exactly what I expected. When they stopped developing last year, they dedicated a lot of time and effort to create a strong car for this year. So, for us to still be so close to them is a positive sign.”

Norris also acknowledges Ferrari’s impressive progress, stating: “Ferrari made one of the biggest leaps from last year to this year. It’s truly remarkable. However, the fact that we are still not far behind them is a great sign for us.”

Although McLaren hopes to be even more competitive and fight at the front, they recognize that they have made progress but still face challenges that they have worked hard to overcome in recent years.

Norris refuted claims that Ferrari had overtaken McLaren in the hierarchy, stating that the Italian team was faster than McLaren in several races at the end of the previous season.

“There were still several races at the end of last year where we were not even close to the second fastest team,” he added.

“Even in Abu Dhabi, we were far from being the second fastest team or even the third or fourth fastest.”

“So, I would never suggest that we were the second fastest team and now Ferrari has overtaken us or something like that.”

“I want to believe that maybe we have a slightly better overall package, but I think we still haven’t visited certain tracks that exposed so many weaknesses like, for example, I’m not looking forward to that. There are some tracks where I think our weaknesses will be really evident. Overall, though, I am very satisfied.”

The British driver, who finished third in Melbourne last weekend, is optimistic about McLaren’s progress during the period between races at Albert Park Circuit.

“Could I be happier? Yes. Could we all? Yes, because we always want more and always want to compete at a higher level,” he evaluated.

“But I think starting the season in such a strong position, knowing that we can still improve in many areas, leaves me satisfied because we are in a good position and we know we can improve a lot.”

“If you think 12 months ago, it was a completely different situation. We have made significant progress compared to our competitors since last year.”

“It becomes more challenging to continue like this as you approach the top, but there are still many things for us to do.”

“So, I am pleased with the progress we have made as a team and I am very satisfied with the dedication and effort that everyone is putting in to maintain this.”
