Norris Hints at Verstappen’s Aggressive Tactics, Calls for ‘Fair and Clean’ Racing Ahead of Brazilian GP

Lando Norris took a subtle jab at Max Verstappen, subtly pointing out his commitment to clean racing as he prepares for the Brazilian GP amid escalating tension with the reigning champion. The McLaren driver, who trails Verstappen by 47 points in the F1 2024 title race, narrowly avoided collisions with Verstappen twice at the Mexican GP, where Verstappen incurred two 10-second penalties.

The incidents in Mexico mark the latest chapter in a series of clashes between the two drivers this season. Notably, they collided during the Austrian GP in June, where both suffered punctures, and again at the United States GP, where Norris had to take evasive action to dodge Verstappen’s aggressive moves.

With three Grand Prix and a Sprint Race left on the calendar, Norris emphasized his desire for respectful racing, particularly as every point counts. “I’ve always had the mentality to race fair and clean,” Norris told media, including Total-Motorsport.com. “Sometimes, I might have even been too kind. Whether attacking or defending, I think I’ve generally made good decisions; though sometimes, I may have paid the price for not being aggressive enough.”

As Verstappen faces pressure to curb his aggressive driving, he has doubled down, refusing to alter his approach. This leaves Norris to rely on the race stewards to enforce penalties if necessary. “I hope for a cleaner battle than what we had previously, but it’s not up to me,” he continued. “I don’t make the rules or decide on penalties; I just drive. The stewards did their part, and they did a good job.”

Heading into the Interlagos race weekend, Norris remains cautious yet hopeful. He remarked, “Every weekend is a new weekend. I hope for clean and fair racing, and that’s what I expect.”

With tensions high and the title on the line, the Brazilian GP is shaping up to be a pivotal moment in the championship. Norris’s call for respect on the track underscores his commitment to a fair fight as he seeks to close the gap in the final stretch of the season.
