Norris destaca vantagem da McLaren na perseguição à Red Bull na Fórmula 1.

In the closed park, the top three finishers were Oscar Piastri from Australia, driving for McLaren in second place, Max Verstappen from the Netherlands, driving for Red Bull Racing in pole position, and Lando Norris from Great Britain, driving for McLaren in third place. This took place on May 18, 2024, during the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, Italy.

Norris believes that having two equally talented drivers both at McLaren and Ferrari is an advantage that will help reduce the gap to Red Bull’s championship lead in Formula 1. Although Red Bull has been the team to beat in the early stages of the 2024 season, both Ferrari and McLaren have managed to secure a win each in the first seven races. Norris secured his first F1 victory with the help of an upgrade package in Miami and also pressured Max Verstappen during the race in Imola.

However, Norris remains realistic about his chances of competing for the championship this season. He acknowledges that he is currently 60 points behind Verstappen and recognizes that there is still a long way to go. The team is not fixated on the championship and instead has been focused on achieving good results in each race. Norris acknowledges that they faced setbacks in the early races, but remains optimistic about the opportunities ahead and the developments still to come for McLaren.

However, Norris believes that having two McLaren and Ferrari drivers who consistently perform well in qualifying and races could give them an advantage against Red Bull. Verstappen managed to overcome difficulties in Red Bull’s practice sessions in Imola and secure the win, while Perez struggled and finished in eighth, more than 54.7 seconds behind.

Norris expressed his optimism, stating that if things change, they have the potential to challenge other teams. He believes that McLaren, along with Ferrari, is unique in having two competitive cars in every session and race. This sets them apart from many other teams where only one driver is performing exceptionally well while the other struggles.

Norris sees this as a strength for McLaren and believes that if they continue to perform at a high level with both cars, they can remain competitive in the championship.

On the other hand, Oscar Piastri, who is currently 48 points behind Norris in the standings, does not believe McLaren will be able to challenge for the championship this year. He thinks it will be very difficult, especially in the Drivers’ Championship, where he is significantly behind. Piastri is not focused on the championship and prefers to focus on consistently scoring good points.

Piastri acknowledges that McLaren could potentially challenge in the Constructors’ Championship if both drivers consistently score well. However, he emphasizes the need for McLaren to consistently fight for wins before they can make a serious challenge. Piastri believes that by focusing on their speed and performance, the championship will naturally come to them.
