Lando Norris of McLaren led the way in the Formula 1 British Grand Prix practice session at Silverstone. Norris, on Soft tires, set a time of 1:27.420s, finishing 0.134s ahead of Lance Stroll of Aston Martin. Oscar Piastri, Norris’ teammate, was third-fastest but encountered a hydraulic issue towards the end of the session. Max Verstappen was the fastest driver on Medium tires, followed closely by George Russell of Mercedes.
Fernando Alonso split the two Mercedes drivers, with Lewis Hamilton in seventh place. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz of Ferrari finished eighth and ninth, respectively, while Esteban Ocon of Alpine completed the top 10. The session also featured four non-race drivers, including Oliver Bearman, who will drive for Haas in 2025. Bearman was the fastest among the non-race drivers in 14th place.
Jack Doohan of Alpine, Franco Colapinto of Williams, and Isack Hadjar of Red Bull also participated in the session. Hadjar had a close call with Norris towards the end of the session but managed to avoid a collision. Yuki Tsunoda of Red Bull caused a red flag when he spun into the gravel at Luffield early on.
