Noah Gragson’s NASCAR journey has been anything but smooth, but the former Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) driver is living proof that second chances can spark redemption. After a tumultuous exit from Legacy Motor Club in 2023, which included a suspension and resignation following a controversial social media post, Gragson’s career seemed destined for derailment. However, Tony Stewart and SHR stepped in, giving the embattled driver a lifeline in the No. 10 Ford for the 2024 season.
Now, as Gragson prepares to move on to Front Row Motorsports (FRM) for the 2025 season, he credits Stewart for reviving his career and helping him rediscover his love for racing.
A Lifeline from Stewart-Haas Racing
For Gragson, the opportunity with SHR was nothing short of a lifeline. In a recent interview, the 25-year-old expressed deep gratitude for Tony Stewart, Greg Zipadelli, and the SHR team for taking a chance on him when many thought his NASCAR future was over.
“I’m very grateful for Tony and Greg Zipadelli and everybody who has given me this opportunity over at Stewart-Haas,” Gragson said. “It’s a bummer what everyone is going through, but for myself personally, I’m not content and I’m not satisfied with what we’ve accomplished.”
Despite his self-criticism, Gragson feels he showed enough promise in 2024 to secure a seat for the following season. “I’m confident to say I feel like I have somewhat earned an opportunity to race on Sundays,” he added.
Bouncing Back: Finding Fun and Confidence
The 2024 season wasn’t without its struggles, but it was a stark contrast to Gragson’s difficult rookie year. While the results weren’t headline-grabbing, he showed resilience, bouncing back from poor runs and delivering solid performances when it mattered most. This newfound ability to recover has reignited his passion for the sport.
“I still ride the waves—the highs are good, and the lows are low—but to be able to have a bad run the prior week and bounce back the next week and put yourself back on the map feels great,” Gragson said. “Last year, I don’t think we had a good run. Not one. It wasn’t fun. I’m having more fun now.”
This renewed sense of enjoyment and confidence is a testament to the support he received at SHR. Gragson’s honesty about his struggles and growth highlights a driver who’s maturing both on and off the track.
The Road Ahead: Front Row Motorsports and 2025
With SHR’s 2024 season in the rearview mirror, Gragson is now set to drive for Front Row Motorsports in their third car for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season. The move represents a fresh start for the driver and a chance to build on the lessons learned under Stewart’s mentorship.
While expectations for FRM may be more modest than SHR, Gragson’s determination and improved mindset suggest he’s ready to make the most of the opportunity. The 2025 season will be crucial in determining whether Gragson can establish himself as a consistent presence in NASCAR’s top tier.
The Tony Stewart Effect
Gragson’s gratitude for Stewart underscores the importance of mentorship in NASCAR. Stewart’s willingness to take a chance on Gragson reflects his belief in redemption and talent over controversy—a belief that has paid off with Gragson’s steady improvement.
By guiding Gragson back to competitiveness, Stewart not only salvaged a promising career but also demonstrated the value of leadership and second chances in motorsports.
