The motorsport world was caught off guard this week as Nitrocross announced the cancellation of its remaining 2024 season events, which included six rounds in Phoenix, Miami, and Las Vegas. The decision to “pause” the series has left teams frustrated and concerned about the future of the sport.
In response, a collective statement was released by the Nitrocross Team Principals Association (NTPA), which represents a coalition of Group E and NEXT EVO teams, including Dreyer & Reinbold JC, Olsbergs MSE, Vermont SportsCar, VMV Racing, and others. The teams expressed their disappointment and are now seeking a solution after what they describe as a sudden and significant decision.
“The Nitrocross Team Principals Association (NTPA) is disappointed by Thrill One’s recent decision to pause the Nitrocross series,” the statement said. “This decision has significant impacts on our teams, their staff, drivers, and the fans who have passionately supported Nitrocross.”
The NTPA’s statement also highlighted their commitment to finding a resolution that respects the investments made by the teams, drivers, and sponsors involved. “We remain open to discussions with Thrill One to ensure a sustainable and successful future for all involved,” they added, signaling their willingness to negotiate and push for the revival of the series.
Before the abrupt pause, the 2024 Nitrocross season had completed two doubleheader events, held at Richmond Raceway and Utah Motorsports Campus. Among the notable performances, DRR JC’s Robin Larsson and Andreas Bakkerud, along with OMSE driver Oliver Eriksson, took victories in the Group E class.
With fans, sponsors, and teams in limbo, the future of Nitrocross hangs in the balance as the NTPA and stakeholders attempt to salvage what has been an exciting yet abruptly halted season.
