Nissan is considering launching new performance models from Nismo and intends to use the Formula E team to develop prototype versions of electric vehicles.
Tommaso Volpe, head of Nissan’s Formula E team, said in an interview with the British “Autocar” that there are discussions for the Paris-based team to contribute to the development of new models.
Volpe recalled that future Formula E single-seaters could contribute some technology that may be adopted by future road models. “The development of the Gen4 single-seaters will be the moment when potential technology transfers from competition vehicles to future road products can occur, because the level of performance and efficiency will be pushed even further to the limit”.
It is worth noting that the Gen4 for the 2026/27 season will feature permanent all-wheel drive, one electric motor per axle, and will deliver around 800 hp, which is nearly double that of the Ariya Nismo, the latest high-performance model, which delivers 435 hp and 600 Nm of maximum torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds, and from 80-120 km/h in just 2.4 seconds.
