Nissan is reducing its production plans for the new generation of the Leaf, a 100% electric model, due to China’s rare earth export restrictions, which are leading to a shortage of parts.
The news was reported this Tuesday by the Japanese “Kyodo News”, which also states that the revision of the new Leaf’s production, which is expected to be launched later this year, could complicate the restructuring plans of the Japanese automaker, which include the closure of seven production units and a 15% reduction in the number of jobs.
It should be noted that Nissan is not the first Japanese company to halt production of its models due to the shortage of rare earths from China, as last month “Reuters” reported that Suzuki also temporarily suspended production of the Swift.
