Nissan to Test Rising Stars Abbi Pulling and Sophia Flörsch in All-Female Formula E Session

Nissan has announced that two of the most promising young female talents in motorsport, Abbi Pulling and Sophia Flörsch, will participate in the upcoming all-female FIA Formula E test in Valencia next month. The test is part of an initiative to give more women the opportunity to drive Formula E cars, as the electric racing series aims to diversify and grow the pool of female drivers.

The Japanese automaker, fresh off the launch of its new e-4ORCE 05 car, is fielding Pulling and Flörsch, two drivers with impressive resumes, in the special test session. Nissan’s team principal, Tommaso Volpe, expressed excitement about the program, stating, “This is a fantastic initiative, and we’re proud to contribute by giving two of the highest-profile women drivers a chance to experience Formula E machinery.”

Abbi Pulling: The Rising Star

Abbi Pulling, widely regarded as one of the most talented young female racers today, is currently dominating the F1 Academy championship, leading by an impressive 95 points with seven wins from 10 races. Her meteoric rise has captured attention across the motorsport world, and her experience includes making history as the first female driver to win a British F4 race. For Pulling, the chance to test a Formula E car is a dream come true.

“I’ve been wanting to drive a Formula E car for a long time,” Pulling said. “To be given this opportunity by Nissan is incredible. The car is going to be a huge challenge, but I’m ready to learn and help the team while making the most of this experience.”

Sophia Flörsch: A Motorsport Veteran

Sophia Flörsch, another top-tier talent, brings a wealth of experience in various motorsport disciplines, including FIA Formula 3, World Endurance Championship (WEC), and multiple Le Mans 24 Hour entries. As a member of the Alpine Academy like Pulling, Flörsch is known for her versatility and resilience in the face of adversity. She finished 29th out of 34 drivers in the 2023 Formula 3 season but has earned a reputation for her strong performances in endurance racing.

“I’m very excited to have this opportunity with Nissan,” Flörsch said. “Formula E is going to be a completely different experience from what I’m used to, but I’m eager to take on the challenge and contribute to the team as they prepare for Season 11.”

Nissan’s Commitment to Female Talent

The test is seen as a critical step in the development of Pulling and Flörsch as they both look to advance their careers in motorsport. Volpe noted that both drivers would spend time in the simulator and at Nissan’s workshop to ensure they’re fully prepared for the test. “These cars are not easy to drive, so we’re making sure they have all the preparation they need,” he said.

Nissan’s involvement in the all-female test reflects the increasing number of women entering competitive racing, and the team is committed to supporting this momentum. “We’re fully embracing this opportunity. It’s not just about a one-off event; it’s about being part of the journey toward greater female representation in motorsport,” Volpe added.

Looking Ahead

The Formula E test will be held in Valencia and will allow both drivers to showcase their talent in electric racing machinery, an entirely different experience from the single-seaters they are accustomed to. For Nissan, this is an opportunity to give their rookie drivers invaluable experience while ironing out any technical challenges before the next season.

As Nissan moves forward with its plans for Season 11, both Pulling and Flörsch are expected to gain crucial insights from the test, helping them as they continue to build their motorsport careers.
