Nissan has reduced its production plan for the new generation of the 100% electric Leaf by more than half for the period between September and November, due to delays in battery procurement.
According to the Japanese business newspaper “Nikkei” this Tuesday, lower-than-expected battery production from a supplier prompted the revision now revealed, with the publication adding that Nissan plans to launch a new electric model by the end of the year.
The newspaper did not specify the original or revised production targets, but stated that the production plan was reduced by several thousand vehicles per month at the Tochigi factory in eastern Japan, where the new version of the Leaf is produced for the U.S. and Japanese markets.
Nissan stated that it had no comment on speculative information, adding that production of the new generation of the Leaf is proceeding according to the planned schedule.
