Nissan announces commitment to FIA Formula E championship until 2030

Nissan announced today that it will be committed to the FIA Formula E championship until at least the year 2030. This commitment will take them into the GEN4 era of the championship. The announcement was made at a press conference in Tokyo, moments before the city’s first E-Prix. Tommaso Volpe, Nissan’s Executive Director and Team Principal, signed the official register for FE manufacturers for Seasons 13 through 16. As a symbol of perseverance and good luck, Volpe received a personalized Japanese Daruma doll from FE CEO Jeff Dodds.

According to Formula E, this agreement highlights a long-term partnership aimed at advancing electric racing technology. It also demonstrates Formula E, Nissan, and FIA’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of electric mobility and innovation on a global scale. In an official statement, Volpe expressed his satisfaction in confirming Nissan’s long-term future in Formula E as a manufacturer. He also mentioned that Nissan is proud to be the first company to commit until 2030, as this aligns with the goals set in their Ambition 2030 commitment. Volpe emphasized that Formula E offers an incredible testing ground for new electric technologies and they are excited to continue developing and competing until at least the end of Season 16. He expressed gratitude to Formula E Operations and FIA for their support and looks forward to continued collaboration.

Dodds, from Formula E, expressed happiness with the extension of Nissan’s involvement in the series until 2030. He emphasized that Nissan shares the values of promoting sustainability and seeking the best automotive performance through electric solutions. Dodds also highlighted the importance of having a global brand like Nissan, as it helps promote the series to a broader and more diverse audience and contributes to the promotion of electric vehicle technology worldwide. He praised Nissan as a highly respected manufacturer, aligned with the goals and values of Formula E, and expressed excitement for the role Nissan will play in the future of the championship.

Season 10 has been positive for Nissan, with the factory team achieving two third-place finishes with Oliver Rowland. Additionally, their powertrain assisted Sam Bird from NEOM McLaren in securing victory in Sao Paulo.
