Nissan is in negotiations to allow Taiwan’s Foxconn to use one of its production units in Japan to build electric vehicles.
According to the “Reuters” which cites sources close to the Japanese automaker, the decision to reach an agreement with Foxconn could prevent the closure of Nissan’s factory.
It should be noted that in May it was reported that Nissan was considering closing its Oppama factory in the port city of Yokosuka, south of Tokyo. Nissan’s CEO, Ivan Espinosa, also announced a restructuring plan for the company aimed at recovering Nissan, which includes closing seven of the brand’s 17 factories worldwide and reducing the workforce by about 15%.
It is worth mentioning that recently Mitsubishi Motors signed a memorandum of understanding with Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, a Foxconn company for the automotive sector, for the company to design and produce electric models for Mitsubishi.
With this agreement, the Taiwanese company has the opportunity to showcase its automotive production capabilities, hoping that a partnership between the two companies can attract other brands.
