Nissan Ariya: o primeiro elétrico a ligar os dois Polos

The epic adventure that covered over 27,000 kilometers, connecting the North Pole to the South Pole by electric car, has come to an end.

Chris and Julie Ramsey have just announced the successful completion of the “Pole to Pole” expedition, a nine-month adventure that took the Scottish duo from one Pole to the other behind the wheel of a Nissan Ariya.

The first journey of its kind in a 100% electric car, covering a total of 27,000 km, ended on December 15th (Friday), but the news only arrived after the two adventurers were able to reestablish satellite communication, which was impossible from their remote location.

The feat was accomplished in the electric vehicle Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE, which was modified by the Icelandic specialist Arctic Trucks – mainly with larger 39-inch tires and corresponding wheel arches, along with some equipment for driving on ice and various body reinforcements. The suspension and mechanics, as well as the electric motor and batteries, were essentially factory-made.

Since March 2023, the daring “Pole to Pole” expedition has taken the team of adventurers through various regions and continents, with temperatures ranging from -30⁰C to over 30⁰C. Ramsey even became the first person to drive a car of any kind from one Pole to the other when he traveled from the Arctic to North America, Central America, and South America before crossing to Antarctica.

The route, with passages through some of the most extreme, brutal, and breathtaking landscapes in the world, from icy and snowy landscapes to treacherous mountain climbs and vast desert dunes, was not the first fully electric expedition for Chris Ramsey. The Scotsman has been venturing into electric cars for over a decade. In 2017, he and his wife, Julie, became the first team to complete the Mongol Rally in a fully electric car. The duo traveled over 16,000 kilometers through various locations over 56 days in their own Nissan Leaf.
