Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has always been a larger-than-life figure in the sport, and now, as he prepares to don Ferrari red for the 2025 season, his ability to navigate the press is receiving high praise from his former rival, Nico Rosberg.

A calculated move to Ferrari

Hamilton’s shocking decision to leave Mercedes after over a decade and join Scuderia Ferrari has sent waves through the sporting world. The move, at age 40, is seen as both a personal and professional challenge for the Briton, who remains hungry for an unprecedented eighth world championship.

Rosberg, the 2016 world champion and Hamilton’s former teammate, believes the decision reflects Hamilton’s desire to test himself one last time in the most iconic colors of F1.

“If Lewis chose the Red, at forty years old, when he already had everything on the bulletin board, it is precisely because he wanted, for the last time in his career, to put himself to the test,” Rosberg remarked.

Hamilton’s ‘manipulative ability’ with the press

Rosberg highlighted an often-overlooked aspect of Hamilton’s success: his exceptional skill in managing the media. According to Rosberg, Hamilton has a “manipulative ability” to shape narratives in a way that ensures his comments are interpreted favorably.

“Hamilton’s ‘manipulative ability’ with the press allows him to administer comments on the facts so that they would not negatively affect his conduct,” Rosberg noted.

This media-savvy approach has helped Hamilton maintain his image as a global icon and role model, transcending the boundaries of motorsport.

High stakes at Ferrari

Hamilton’s arrival at Ferrari is more than just a career move—it’s a legacy-defining moment. The Tifosi have high hopes for the Briton, who has stated his ambition to claim a record-breaking eighth championship. However, the question remains: will Ferrari provide Hamilton with a car capable of delivering on his lofty goals?

While Hamilton’s ability to manage the press and the pressure is undeniable, the challenge at Ferrari will depend as much on engineering as it will on the 40-year-old’s driving prowess.

A new chapter

As Hamilton prepares for his debut in red, the world will watch closely. For now, his former rival sums up the narrative perfectly:

“Lewis has already achieved everything in Formula 1. Joining Ferrari at this stage of his career is about proving something to himself.”
