Lewis Hamilton: Age Impacting F1 Performance, Nico Rosberg Warns of Decline

Nico Rosberg Calls for Harsher Punishment for Verstappen’s “Intentional Retaliation” in Spanish Grand Prix

In a shocking turn of events at the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix, former world champion Nico Rosberg has condemned Max Verstappen’s actions as “intentional retaliation” against George Russell. Despite receiving a mere 10-second time penalty, Rosberg argues that Verstappen should have faced disqualification from the race for his aggressive maneuver.

The incident unfolded during the final laps of the race, with Verstappen finding himself entangled in a fierce battle after a late Safety Car period bunched up the pack. As tensions ran high, Russell attempted a daring move on Verstappen, forcing him off track in a controversial exchange.

Rosberg, speaking on Sky Sports F1, did not mince his words, stating, “It looked like a very intentional retaliation. Wait for the opponent, go ramming into him, just like you felt the other guy rammed into you at Turn 1. That’s something which is extremely unacceptable.”

The stewards deemed Verstappen at fault for the collision, handing him a 10-second penalty that saw him plummet from fifth to tenth place in the final standings. Rosberg drew parallels to past incidents in Formula 1, suggesting that Verstappen’s actions warranted a black flag and immediate disqualification, akin to a notorious clash between Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton in Baku 2017.

While some in the paddock viewed the penalty as sufficient, Rosberg and other pundits criticized the leniency of the decision, calling for a stronger stance on sportsmanship and driving standards in the sport.

Despite the controversy, the focus shifted to McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, who secured a commanding 1-2 finish and extended his lead in the championship standings over teammate Lando Norris. Verstappen, now languishing in fourth place in the Driver Standings, faces mounting pressure and scrutiny as the season progresses towards the midpoint.

As the fallout from the Spanish Grand Prix continues to reverberate through the Formula 1 community, Verstappen’s actions have sparked a debate on the boundaries of competition and sportsmanship in the pinnacle of motorsport.
