Red Bull’s Shocking Revelation: Nico Hulkenberg’s Missed Opportunity

In a surprising turn of events, Red Bull’s executive advisor, Helmut Marko, unveiled a secret discussion that almost led to Nico Hulkenberg joining the Formula 1 team in 2021. The seasoned German driver was a top contender to partner with Max Verstappen, as current drivers Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon struggled to leave a mark in the previous seasons.

Hulkenberg, who had taken a hiatus from F1, showcased his talent with two remarkable performances for Racing Point in 2020. His stellar races caught Red Bull’s attention, but it was Sergio Perez’s maiden F1 victory at the Sakhir Grand Prix that ultimately swayed the team’s decision in his favor.

Marko hinted at the missed opportunity for Hulkenberg, stating, “Maybe it’s a good thing that he didn’t get the seat next to Max anyway.” Despite the setback, Hulkenberg remains committed to Audi’s F1 project, earning praise from Marko for his unexpected comeback and long-term dedication.

As Red Bull faces challenges with its RB21 challenger, speculation arises on potential driver options. While names like Isack Hadjar and Valtteri Bottas are thrown into the mix, Hulkenberg’s allegiance to Audi sets him apart from the current considerations.

Marko emphasized that Audi is the ideal place for the 37-year-old driver to conclude his career, commending Hulkenberg for his resilience and performance during his return to the grid. With Red Bull’s future driver lineup uncertain, all eyes are on the team’s next move in the competitive world of Formula 1.
