The Audi project in Formula 1 has been making headlines in recent weeks. On one hand, there are rumors about the possibility of it being interrupted before reaching the tracks after the change in direction at the Volkswagen Group, while on the other hand, speculation arises about possible drivers.

Nico Hülkenberg was one of the names recently mentioned in connection with the Audi program with Sauber – possibly in 2025, even before the official entry of the manufacturer, since his contract with Haas expires next year.

The #27 confirmed to Sky Deutschland that there were discussions, but they did not come to fruition: ‘There were discussions. I know Andi [Andreas] Seidl very well from Porsche and Formula 1. We get along well, that’s no secret. There were discussions, there was interest. In the end, it didn’t happen’.

Although there is nothing concrete at the moment, Hülkenberg does not rule out Audi, but emphasized that it is still not clear whether the manufacturer will compete at the top: ‘When Audi finally starts in 2026, it is still not clear whether they will be a top team or not. They have to prove it and achieve it beforehand. So, there are some unknowns. I am currently at Haas, I feel at home, and everything else is up in the air’.
