Nick Tandy Makes History: First Driver to Conquer Motorsport’s ‘Big Four’ 24-Hour Races

In an achievement that cements his name among the legends of endurance racing, Nick Tandy has become the first driver in history to claim overall victories in motorsport’s four biggest 24-hour races. His most recent triumph at the 2024 24 Hours of Daytona marked the final piece in a career-defining puzzle—one that has eluded even the sport’s most iconic figures.

Tandy’s name now stands alone in the record books, overshadowing past endurance greats who have conquered these races individually but never all four at the highest level. His feat spans the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Nürburgring, Spa, and Daytona, a gauntlet of grueling, world-class competition that few have ever dared to dream of conquering in full.

Tandy’s Reaction: “It’s Quite Unbelievable, Really”

Speaking after his landmark Daytona win in the Porsche Penske #7 Porsche 963 GTP, the Brit admitted the sheer weight of his accomplishment hadn’t fully sunk in.

“To be the first person to ever do something like this is, I mean, it’s quite unbelievable really,” Tandy reflected. “It never really dawned on me until we won Spa, and someone mentioned I had class wins in all four.”

It was at that moment in 2020, after his victory at the 24 Hours of Spa, that the realization hit—he was on the verge of something historic. All he needed was an overall Daytona victory. And in 2024, he delivered.

“Winning Daytona is massive as a standalone event. But to win all four? That’s a dream come true,” he added.

A Journey Through Motorsport’s Toughest 24-Hour Races

Tandy’s first major endurance triumph came at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans, when he piloted Porsche’s LMP1 machine to overall victory. It was a crowning moment in his career, but only the beginning of a remarkable run.

Next, he tamed the treacherous Nürburgring Nordschleife in 2018, winning the 24 Hours of Nürburgring in a Porsche 911 GT3 R for Manthey Racing, alongside Frederic Makowiecki, Patrick Pilet, and Richard Lietz.

In 2020, he checked off another box, securing his first overall win at the 24 Hours of Spa, with none other than Laurens Vanthoor—his co-driver in Daytona’s 2024 triumph—as one of his teammates.

Finally, after nearly five years of chasing the missing piece, Tandy sealed his legendary status with the 2024 Daytona 24 Hours victory, completing an unprecedented clean sweep of motorsport’s most grueling endurance tests.

What’s Next for the Endurance Racing King?

With this historic milestone behind him, Tandy isn’t slowing down. His focus now shifts to the 12 Hours of Sebring, where he already boasts two class wins (2018, 2019). A victory there in March 2025 would further cement his reputation as one of endurance racing’s all-time greats.

For now, though, Nick Tandy stands alone as the only driver to ever claim overall wins in all four major 24-hour races—a feat that may never be repeated.

Motorsport has a new endurance king.
